Gentlemen Hall Wins Performance Spot at Billboard Music Awards

LAS VEGAS, May 19, 2011 – Ever hear of Gentlemen Hall?  Well, at Sunday night’s 2011 Billboard Music Awards, this Boston band will be sharing the stage with some of today’s hottest music stars including Rihanna, The Black Eyed Peas, Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum, and Taio Cruz after winning Billboard.com and Chevrolet’s “Cruze-ing to Vegas” Battle of the Bands competition last night in Las Vegas.  Gentleman Hall was one of six finalists, one from each of the nation’s regions, that were selected by Billboard.com voters to advance to the head-to-head live competition featuring a panel of judges led by Sugar Ray frontman Mark McGrath.

Their charismatic double-vocalist assault was enough to win over the crowd at Fremont Street Experience and the event judges.   The panel included Billboard’s Editorial Director, Bill Werde and Billboard.com Managing Editor Jessica Lektemann who joined McGrath to name Gentleman Hall the victor and award them the coveted performance slot at the Billboard Music Awards, airing live from Las Vegas on ABC May 22nd.

"I don't know what just happened! It doesn't seem real," Gentlemen Hall's Seth Hachen said in pleased disbelief moments after winning the contest. "We're little fishes getting to swim with the big fishes."

The competition began with Billboard’s hand-picked pool of 18 under the-radar artists across the U.S. found via BillboardPro's Heat Score index and Billboard editorial staff, which were narrowed down to six finalists by Billboard.com voters including Hotels (Seattle), AJ Rafael (Moreno Valley, CA), Lightning Love (Detroit), Otenki (Houston), Side By Side (Charlotte, NC), and Gentlemen Hall (Boston). These bands hit the road last week in an all-new Chevrolet Cruze and documented their journey to Las Vegas.  A camera crew followed their every move – traveling with their equipment and playing gigs along the way, communicating with fans through the Cruze’s Facebook integration, blogging, tweeting, sharing playlists and everything in between. The six bands engaged with their fans while on the road, building a viral audience and improving their social Heat Score, one of many goals as they prepared to for last night’s performance.
