Client Communication is Key to a Solid Foundation

Client Communication is Key to a Solid Foundation

Communication is a core element in any successful marketing campaign and that effort begins with the communication between the account manager and the client.

Keeping the lines of communication open is key to laying a solid foundation for any program. One of the most important parts of being a good communicator to your client is quite possibly the easiest: be a good listener. Communication isn't a one-way street, so first and foremost you need to pay attention to what the client is telling you. Also, don’t be afraid to ask questions. Don’t assume. Make sure you have a clear understanding of what your client wants and expects.

Once you have that established, it’s important to connect with your client on a regular basis, whether it’s face-to-face meetings, calls, emails, texts, etc. Clients want to know what’s going on with their programs, so keeping them up-to-date on the various elements will help the client feel at ease and also help confirm that you’re on the right path with the project.

In addition to updates about your efforts, many clients appreciate receiving relevant industry news and information. That includes keeping the client posted on the activities of their competitor(s) in the space. Easy ways to stay on top of that information include setting up Google Alerts, following key accounts on Twitter and keeping tabs on industry publications. A little extra effort can go a long way in keeping your client informed.

Overall, communicating with your client isn't rocket science, but it is the key to success.
